DESCRIPTION

Poseidon battles the Gigante Polybotes in a scene from the Gigantomachia (War of the Giants). The naked god is crowned with a wreath (of celery?) and brandishes a three-pronged trident. The falling giant is armoured and wields a spear. Behind the god, Gaea rises up from the earth to plead for the life of her son.
