DESCRIPTION

Poseidon battles the giant Polybotes in a scene from the Gigantomachia (War of the Giants). The naked god is crowned with a wreath (of celery?) and brandishes a three-pronged trident. The falling Gigante is equipped with a breastplate, crested helm, shield and spear. Behind the god, Gaea (Mother Earth) rises up from the ground to plead for the life of her son.
