THE KHROMANDAI (or Chromandi) were a monkey-like Indian tribe.
The name of this tribe suggests a connection with the ancient kingdom of Mandi located in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Pliny the Elder, Natural History 7. 25 (trans. Rackham) (Roman encyclopedia C1st A.D.) :
"Tauron [a Greek writer] gives the names of Chromandae to a forest tribe [of India] that has no speech but a horrible scream, hairy bodies, keen grey eyes and the teeth of a dog."
