KHREMETES (Chremetes) was a river-god of western Libya (modern Libya).

The only other major North African river personified by the Greeks was the Neilos (Nile).

"[Krataigonos (Crataegonus) and his Libyans joined the army of Dionysos in their campaign against the Indians :] Their masses came led by Krataigonos, whom Ankhiroe (Anchiroe) daughter of Khremetes (Chremetes) brought forth on her father's riverbank in that shortlasting union with Psyllos (Psyllus) the harebrained; the bridegroom she held in her arms was the gods' enemy."
