DESCRIPTION
The Nereid Pherousa rides side-saddle on the back of the sea-god Gaaeos. The deity is depicted as a merman with a serpentine fish-tail in place of legs, two crab-claw "horns", and a pair of crab-claw "feet". He holds a shepherd's crock as a herdsman of marine creatures (probably crabs and crayfish for his name means "of the earth").
