TEREINE was a Naiad-nymph of the river Strymon in the land of the Triballoi tribe of Thrake (north of Greece). She was loved by the god Ares and bore him a daughter named Thrassa.
Teirene's name meaning "She Who Pierces" from the Greek word tereô meaning "to pierce"--a fitting name for a consort of the war-god.
